Published paleoenvironmental data for show that deposition occurred from marine isotope stage 5 (MIS5) through 3 (MIS3) (80–30 kilo-annum [ka]), when warm to hot interglacial climate early MIS5 (about 130 about 80 ka) was transitioning a considerably cooler wetter climate. Scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray (SEM/EDS) analysis silt sand grains exposed an abandoned borrow pit near Phillips Bayou, Arkansas, performed as part 1990s study loess unglaciated lower Valley. Results were summarized publications, but grain morphology mineralogy not published. Some SEM/EDS analyses are presented this report. Combined with previously published chronostratigraphic pedostratigraphic at indicate some degree syndepositional weathering pedogenic alteration during after gradual eolian 4 (MIS4) MIS3 60 30 ka). support paleoclimate interpretations indicating least far south northern Mississippi, MIS4 70 cool cold humid wet.

Mechanical properties of sand, silt, and clay containing tetrahydrofuran hydrate
[1] The mechanical behavior of hydrate-bearing sediments subjected to large strains has relevance for the stability of the seafloor and submarine slopes, drilling and coring operations, and the analysis of certain small-strain properties of these sediments (for example, seismic velocities). This study reports on the results of comprehensive axial compression triaxial tests conducted at up to 1 ...

it is only thirteen years since the scanning electron microscope has been available commercially. yet, even in this short period of time, this instrument has been a powerful tool in the investigation of topography, electrical and magnetic properties, crystal structure, cathodoluminescent characteristics etc. of solid specimens. today, this type of microscope has opened its place alongside the c...
متن کاملStudying the effect of inherent anisotropy on undrained behavior of sand-silt mixtures
In some situations, dams need to be built on non-rock alluvial grounds such as sand and sand-silt deposits. Therefore, undrained behavior and strength of silty sands are of great importance. One of the critical factors in studying the behavior of sand-silt mixtures is inherent anisotropy, a natural soil characteristic that depends on its texture and is independent of the soil's initial stress s...
